Lesson Summary: In this lesson, students will watch a YouTube video all about adjectives. After the video, the teacher will review the characteristics and purpose of adjectives during a whole class discussion. Students will contribute by answering prompted questions and by offering their own examples. Students will then work alone or in pairs on an electronic device to participate in a lesson and assessment on NearPod. The closure of the lesson will be done through Padlet, where students will each be able to post their answers/suggestions to three questions specifically pertaining to the story Tacky the Penguin and the concept of adjectives.

In this lesson, students will watch a Powtoon video about their tasks for that day's lesson. The teacher will then do a read aloud of the story, Tacky the Penguin. The class will briefly discuss the story, and then watch a YouTube video about how to write a plot summary. The students will each write their own plot summary and then create a Fakebook account with a partner for one of the characters in the story. The teacher will use the rubric created on Rubistar to evaluate the students' completed work.

Illustrated by Lynn Munsinger
Tacky is a penguin who is very different from all of his friends. He does not act like the other 'proper' penguins. His friends make fun of his odd behavior all of the time, which causes Tacky to feel bad about himself. One day, hunters come in search of penguins. It is Tacky's odd behavior that throws the hunters off so much that they are no longer convinced any penguins live in the area. Tacky's friends realize that there are indeed advantages to being different. This book speaks strongly to the theme of individuality, and that being different or unique can actually be a good thing.
